Next month, you’re in for one of our dopest festival weekends yet, as we welcome some of the country’s best live performers in indie Black music! Keep reading for a taste of what’s to come from the DMV’s iconic Backyard Band, Charleston’s own Manny Houston, emerging new Atlanta artist Madyson Symphony, plus more.

Madyson Symphony (Atlanta)
Madyson Symphony's musical journey was destined from birth, raised in a family deeply rooted in music. Her evolution as a vocalist, enriched by her studies at Spelman College, reflects her commitment to honing her craft. From church choirs to studio sessions, Madyson has learned the value of patience and faith, allowing her to relinquish control and let her music guide her path. As an "awkward black girl," with a love for laughter and family, Madyson brings a unique energy to her music. With her father's influence and her aunt's support, Madyson Symphony is set to leave an indelible mark on the world of music.
Manny Houston (Charleston)
Manny Houston, a rising star from South Carolina, gained fame on platforms like Voisey and RapChat with his infectious blend of rap and soulful melodies. With a degree in classical piano and a background in Off-Broadway performances, Manny is a versatile artist drawing comparisons to Donald Glover and Kanye West. Despite no album release yet, he's earned praise from industry heavyweights like Westside Boogie and secured a deal with Snapchat for his debut single, "Coupe." Stay tuned for his eagerly awaited BFTF performance, promising raw lyrics and introspective emotion.
Trap Jazz All Stars (Atlanta)
Get ready for the return of the Trap Jazz All Stars, hailing from the vibrant musical hub of Atlanta. This dynamic collective merges the infectious beats of trap with the smooth improvisation of jazz, creating a unique sonic experience that captivates audiences worldwide. With their electrifying performances and innovative sound, the Trap Jazz All Stars are redefining the boundaries of contemporary music. DuPont Brass (DC)
DuPont Brass, a unique brass-driven supergroup from the DMV area, originated as a group of five music majors from Howard University aiming to raise tuition funds during Christmas. Evolving into a 9-piece ensemble, they blend brass, rhythm, and vocals, gaining popularity from local Metro station performances and transitioning to professional gigs like weddings and banquets. Their journey includes performances with esteemed institutions like the D.C. Jazz Festival and The Kennedy Center, along with media features on WPFW and The Washington Post. Combining classical and contemporary influences, they've crafted a distinct "Eclectic Soul" sound, blending jazz, hip-hop, and R&B. Check out their latest project, "Music Education" today!

STOUT (Connecticut)
STOUT, hailed as the Queen of New Era Rock, hails from New Haven, CT, and boasts an impressive resume of collaborations with music icons including Stevie Wonder, Gwen Stefani, and Usher. With appearances on renowned shows like Oprah and the Grammy Awards, she's renowned for creating unforgettable experiences that touch on themes of love, history, and passion. Currently, STOUT continues to captivate audiences nationwide alongside legends like Chris Dave and Robert Glasper. Tune in to her newest single, “Trigger” on Apple Music.

Enter THE RED SAMPLE (TRS), a dynamic force that transcends mere band status, delivering a fusion of live instruments, tracks, and electrifying vocals. Their high-octane performances blend the best of both worlds: the energy of a live band with the vibe of a DJ set. With tubas, dazzling lights, and infectious crowd interaction, TRS surprises and delights audiences of all ages. From R&B to Old School jams, HBCU anthems to A-town classics, their versatile setlist ensures non-stop excitement. Having shared stages with artists like 112 and Sevyn Steeter, TRS continues to captivate music lovers worldwide with their unforgettable live experience. We’re excited to welcome them back again to the BFTF stage!
Backyard Band (DC)
Last but certainly not least—Backyard Band. Also known as BYB, this legendary group reigns as the premier Go-Go band in the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia area, boasting national recognition. Lead by Anwan 'Big G' Glover, famed for his role on HBO's “The Wire,” BYB's lineup also includes Leroy 'Weensey' Brandon, Earl Vincent, Tiffany 'Sweetthang' White, and Carlos 'Los' Chavels. With core members together for 30 years, BYB's edgy sound evolved from street performances in DC. They've released five albums, including "Hood Related," which charted at 69 on Billboard. Beyond the DC metro, BYB tours nationally, sharing stages with icons like Scarface and 2Pac. Infusing their original Go-Go flair into popular songs, BYB delivers a harmonizing sound that defines their musical essence.
